• de Broglie’s Hypothesis

    Light is a wave or particle debate was going on for centuries and eventually we all came to know it behaves both. Sometime light has wave properties and sometime light has particle properties. It is like humans. Behaves differently with out using a well known rationale.

    de Broglie brought an insight that the both wave & particle properties applies to matter and also the wave length of the matter inversely proportional to momentum.

    The above relationship between the momentum and wavelength is given below.

    \lambda  \alpha \frac{1}{p}

    The wave length is equal to the ratio of Plank’s constant and momentum.

    \lambda =  \frac{h}{p}

    Wave Number:
    It is equivalent of frequency in the spatial domain. It is a measure of unit of repeating waves per unit of space.

    I was not specific in the video. The angular wave number or circular wave number is denoted by k and is given by
    k =  \frac{2\pi}{\lambda}

    The presenting the Plank’s constant in angular form is given by
    \hbar =  \frac{h}{2\pi}

    Using the above equations in de Brogile’s equation representing the relationship between wavelength and momentum we get
    p =  {\hbar}{k}

    Wave Function:
    The wave function is the crux of the Schrodinger equation. The plane wave is taken as the wave function.

  • Application portfolio assessment is one of the function an enterprise architect performs for IT budget analysis, bundling for sourcing strategy, technology migration, application retirement valuation etc. One of the challenge is to come up with globally accepted definition for an application.

    There are at least three categories of defintion required for the application portfolio assessment.

    • Application
    • Tools
    • Services

    Applications: The business processes of an enterprise shall be defined hierarchically with at least 4 levels. Level 1 will present the highest level of business process with in the organization. For example, if we take vehicle manufacturing as an enterprise, power train, stamping, components, procurement, assembly are the first level processes. In the second level, the first level process (for eg. power train ) will be broken down into sub processes. This process shall iterates for 3 lower levels minimum. Application (or a system) is a IT solution supports a level 2 or lower business processes directly or indirectly.

    Tools: Utilities or tools used internally by IT organization to perform the IT functions like Project management, application management , demand management, SDLC, SOX etc. This does not directly support the business process.

    Service: It is a service received from a service provider. It may support the business process directly or indirectly or does not support business process but support IT process. For the services, the enterprise does not have infrastructure, application development, maintenance activities within the organization. Application development and maintenance and infrastructure (Saas Model) will be provided by the service provider.

    The definition requires fine tuning based on the size and type of the company. For example, if an enterprise which perform IT function as the core processes, then the tools definition should belong to application category since it serves the core business processes. The above definition will be suitable for the non core IT companies (like Insurance, education, Oil & Gas etc).

    Once the definition are agreed up on, categorize the applications in the landscape and provide an unique identifier for each application. There will be always few gray areas. Those gray areas should be resolved by collaborating with the application stakeholders.

    Application may require break down based on the type of users, location of the users, support of products etc. The break down is required for quantitative measurements of application performance. For instance, it will be challenging if ITM wants to analyze who makes more demand request in the data ware house, if the enterprise consists of lots of functional areas (like sales & marketing, finance, etc). For example, Date warehouse is a single application, however to track the number of demand requested by each functional area, data ware house application may have ‘n’ number of child represents each business functional area. When it comes to application portfolio assessment only the parent will be taken into consideration. When it comes to the IT operation metrics, the application identification of the child will be used.

    As a key step of application portfolio assessment, categorize all the applications, tools and service in the landscape conforming to the above definitions.

    Quantification of an application:
    How many business processes, in minimum, an application should support? It depends. As long as the business processes all align to level 2 business processes, it can be defined as an application. It all depends on the size of the organization.

  • I have been playing for Falcons team for 5 years and few things, I have been bragging about the Falcon’s attitude are

    • Always play as a team
    • Never give up
    • Respect every one in the team
    • Respect the opponents
    • Fight till the end
    • Never satisfy with our performance
    • Learn from the each other and from the opponents
    • Give every one equal opportunities (according to the situation)

    The game plan architects of Falcons decided to exploit the equal opportunities attitude vigorously in this match. The regular opener became the 12th man and other one became the last down. The opening slot was given to a new comer to the team who has a great attitude and fits very well with Falcon’s chemistry. It is an excellent example of Falcon’s motto “We do not need great players but we will make them”. Both of them played good and one was very unlucky to get out when the umpire thought his thigh was an extension of his bat. He displayed a great confidence and made few excellent shots. The other new comer took enough time to settle down and made 3s, 4s and ended with a very decent score to start the season.. that too, he has not played cricket for almost two years.

    Over all the experiments results were successful and provided 2008 Falcon’s architects lots of data points to grind and mine. Falcons scored 118 runs in 25 overs loss of 9 wickets. Srihari, Matta, Srikanth, Keshav, Sai, Sudhirs all contributed to reach 118 runs. During this innings, one of the Youthrider player dislocated his shoulder. Falcons team member took him to hospital and took care of him. Mean while, Youthrider called another player and Falcons generously agreed the just arrived 12th man as part of their 11. ie. he can also bat.

    Huge delay due to the shoulder dislocation situation, the second innings started around 12.30 pm. Falcons, as usual, started aggressively and took quick wickets. Sai took some well judged great catches. Sai, he always make the most difficult catch as a very simple catch. His athleticism, concentration & judgment are priceless.

    When YouthRiders lost 5 wickets and after that they were not playing to win but to play 25 overs. That put the Falcons very unmotivated and took it as a practice rather than a match. Missed too many easy catches. Had we took those catches YouthRider were out for 35 runs. Finally Youthriders were out for 51 runs in 23.2 overs.

    It was a very good practice for Falcons.
